What you get

How your age on the milestone date is worked out

Enter a date of birth and a milestone date — in the past, today or in the future. The calculator works out the exact age reached on that date in years, months and days, and frames it with the birthday just before the milestone and the next birthday after it, including the days left to run to that next birthday.

★Method

Age at the milestone, framed by birthdays

The age is counted in completed years, months and days between the birth date and the milestone date. The previous birthday is the latest anniversary on or before the milestone, and the next birthday is the first anniversary after it, so the result shows both where the milestone sits and how far it is from the next age change.

◎Worked example

Example: born 15 March 1990, milestone 20 October 2026

The age on the milestone date is 36 years, 7 months, 5 days. The previous birthday was 15 March 2026 and the next is 15 March 2027, 146 days after the milestone. Edge case: set the milestone on the birthday itself — 15 March 2026 — and the age is exactly 36 years, 0 months, 0 days, with a full 365 days to the next birthday.

⌁Limits

Day precision, milestone after birth

The milestone date must fall on or after the birth date, and the calculation works to the day only — the time of birth and the time of day of the milestone are not considered, so the new age is counted from the milestone date itself.

How it works

One calculation, with the rule visible

This tool keeps the input dates, counting convention and result together so the answer can be checked.

1

Date of birth

Enter the full date of birth the timeline is anchored to.

2

Milestone date

Enter the milestone date — in the past, today or in the future, but on or after the birth date.

3

Count the age in completed units

The age on the milestone date is counted in completed years, then months, then days, and framed by the birthday just before the milestone and the next birthday after it.

4

Read the age and the countdown

Born 15 March 1990 with a milestone of 20 October 2026, the age is 36 years 7 months 5 days and the next birthday, 15 March 2027, is 146 days later; a milestone set on the birthday itself lands on exact whole years. The calculation works to the day only — times of day are not considered.

Method & limits

What this result means

A useful answer includes both the number and its assumptions.

Calculation method

Age Timeline Calculator calculates age on a past, current or future milestone date with surrounding birthday context using Gregorian calendar arithmetic. Dates are treated as date-only values, avoiding accidental time-of-day and daylight-saving shifts.

Important: Weekend, holiday, legal, medical, financial, school or workplace policies are included only when the tool explicitly asks for them. Confirm official decisions with the responsible authority.

Common checks

  • Confirm day, month and year before calculating.
  • Check whether endpoints should be included.
  • Review February 29 and month-end cases.
  • Save the reference date with the result.
Common questions

Age Timeline Calculator FAQ

Answers about method, boundaries and edge cases.

What age does the Age Timeline Calculator show?

The exact age reached on your milestone date in completed years, months and days — for example, born 15 March 1990 with a milestone of 20 October 2026, the age is 36 years, 7 months, 5 days.

Can the milestone date be in the past or the future?

Yes. Enter a milestone date in the past, today or in the future, as long as it is on or after the birth date.

What are the previous and next birthdays in the result?

The previous birthday is the latest anniversary on or before the milestone, and the next birthday is the first anniversary after it — so you also see the days left to the next birthday (146 days in the worked example).

What happens if the milestone falls exactly on a birthday?

The age lands on exact whole years.

Do times of day or daylight saving affect the result?

No. The calculation works to the day only; dates are treated as date-only values.
