What you get

Move a date by working days, skipping weekends and holidays

Enter a starting date and a number of business days to add or subtract. The tool steps one calendar day at a time in that direction, skipping the weekend pattern you choose and any public holidays in the calendar you select. It reports the landing date and its weekday, how many public holidays were skipped and how many calendar days the shift spans in total.

★Method

Day-by-day stepping

Each step moves one calendar day. Days in your chosen weekend pattern never count, and neither do public holidays from the selected calendar; only the remaining days reduce the amount left. A negative amount steps backward under the same rules, and the starting date itself is never counted.

◎Example

Worked example

Friday 2 January 2026 plus 5 business days, with a Saturday–Sunday weekend and no holiday calendar: the weekend of 3–4 January is skipped, the five counted days are 5–9 January, and the date lands on Friday 9 January 2026 — 7 calendar days elapsed.

⌁Limits

What it cannot do

Only holidays in the selected calendar are skipped; regional, company and one-off holidays are not included. A shift of 0 business days returns the starting date unchanged, even if it falls on a weekend or a holiday.

Common questions

Business Date Shift Calculator FAQ

Answers about method, inputs, privacy, boundaries and responsible interpretation.

How does the shift work?

The tool steps one calendar day at a time in the direction you choose. Days in your chosen weekend pattern never count, and neither do public holidays from the selected calendar; only the remaining days reduce the amount left. The starting date itself is never counted.

What date is 5 business days after Friday 2 January 2026?

Friday 9 January 2026. With a Saturday-Sunday weekend and no holiday calendar, the weekend of 3-4 January is skipped, the five counted days are 5-9 January, and the shift spans 7 calendar days in total.

Can I shift a date backwards?

Yes. A negative amount steps backward under the same rules - 5 business days before Friday 9 January 2026 lands back on Friday 2 January 2026.

What does the holiday calendar change?

Holidays in the selected calendar are skipped as well as weekends. Friday 16 January 2026 plus 1 business day lands on Tuesday 20 January with the United States (federal) calendar, because Monday 19 January is a federal holiday; without a calendar it would land on the Monday. Only holidays in the selected calendar are skipped - regional, company and one-off holidays are not included.

What happens if I enter 0 business days?

A shift of 0 returns the starting date unchanged, even if it falls on a weekend or a holiday.
