What you get

Your next milestone birthdays, at your own interval

Enter a starting date (usually a birth date), the date to calculate from, and a milestone interval in years. The calculator finds the age in completed years on the calculate-from date, rounds up to the next multiple of your interval, and lists the dates of the next four milestones at that spacing.

★Method

Rounding up to the next interval

The completed years on the calculate-from date are divided by the interval and rounded up to the next whole multiple — that becomes the first milestone age. Each milestone date is that many years after the starting date, with 29 February starts observed on 28 February in non-leap years.

◎Example

Worked example: 10-year milestones from age 36

Born on 15 March 1990 and calculated from 20 October 2026, the completed age is 36, so with a 10-year interval the next milestone is 40, on 15 March 2030. The list continues at the same spacing: 50 on 15 March 2040, 60 on 15 March 2050 and 70 on 15 March 2060.

⌁Limits

When the first date is today

If the calculate-from date falls exactly on a milestone — born 20 October 1990 with a 12-year interval on 20 October 2026 is exactly 36, a multiple of 12 — the first date listed is that day itself, not the following interval. The timeline shows four milestones only, and the interval is in whole years, so it cannot mark monthly or day-count milestones.

How it works

One calculation, with the rule visible

This tool keeps the input dates, counting convention and result together so the answer can be checked.

1

Starting date

Enter the starting date — usually a birth date — that the milestones are counted from.

2

Calculate from

Enter the date to calculate from; the age in completed years on that date sets where the sequence begins.

3

Milestone interval in years

Enter the spacing in whole years. The completed age is rounded up to the next multiple of the interval, and that multiple becomes the first milestone age.

4

Read the next four milestones

Born 15 March 1990 and calculated from 20 October 2026 — completed age 36 — a 10-year interval gives milestones of 40 on 15 March 2030, then 50, 60 and 70 at the same spacing. If the calculate-from date falls exactly on a milestone, that day is listed first, and 29 February starts are observed on 28 February in non-leap years.

Method & limits

What this result means

A useful answer includes both the number and its assumptions.

Calculation method

Custom Milestone Timeline calculates dates for several upcoming custom year milestones using Gregorian calendar arithmetic. Dates are treated as date-only values, avoiding accidental time-of-day and daylight-saving shifts.

Important: Weekend, holiday, legal, medical, financial, school or workplace policies are included only when the tool explicitly asks for them. Confirm official decisions with the responsible authority.

Common checks

  • Confirm day, month and year before calculating.
  • Check whether endpoints should be included.
  • Review February 29 and month-end cases.
  • Save the reference date with the result.
Common questions

Custom Milestone Timeline FAQ

Answers about method, boundaries and edge cases.

How does the Custom Milestone Timeline pick the first milestone?

It takes your completed age on the calculate-from date, divides it by your interval and rounds up to the next whole multiple. Born 15 March 1990, calculated from 20 October 2026 (age 36), a 10-year interval gives 40 as the first milestone, on 15 March 2030.

How many milestones does it list?

The next four milestones at your spacing — 40, 50, 60 and 70 in the worked example.

What if the calculate-from date falls exactly on a milestone?

That day is listed first.

How are 29 February starting dates handled?

29 February starts are observed on 28 February in non-leap years.

What interval can I enter?

Any spacing in whole years.
