Fiscal Quarter Calculator FAQ
Answers about method, inputs, privacy, boundaries and responsible interpretation.
How does the calculator decide which fiscal quarter a date is in?
It divides the fiscal year into four consecutive blocks of three months beginning with the fiscal-year start month you choose, and places the date by how far into the fiscal year it falls. The first three months are Q1, the next three are Q2, and so on, and the quarter boundaries are the first day of its opening month and the last day of its closing month.
What quarter is 20 October 2026 in, with an April fiscal-year start?
It falls in Q3 of fiscal year 2026/2027. The quarter runs from 1 October to 31 December 2026, which is 92 days in total, with 72 days remaining after the entered date.
What changes if the fiscal year starts in January?
A January start makes the fiscal quarters the ordinary calendar quarters, so the same 20 October 2026 date is Q4 of the calendar year instead of Q3. The result depends entirely on the start month you choose.
Which fiscal quarter is 15 February 2026 in, with an April start?
Q4 of fiscal 2025/2026, because February sits in the last three-month block, January to March, of a fiscal year that began in April 2025. Dates early in a calendar year often belong to the previous fiscal year under a non-January start.
Why are some quarters 90 days long and others 92?
Quarter lengths follow real calendar month lengths, so they vary between 90 and 92 days: January to March is 90 days in 2026, April to June is 91, and October to December is 92. The calculator follows the start month you enter and does not look up any organisation's official fiscal calendar, so confirm the start month against your own finance calendar.
