Matriculation DOB Baseline

The Commission recognizes only the date of birth recorded in your Secondary Examination / 10th Class Passing Certificate. Birth certificates issued by municipal bodies, school leaving certificates, or Aadhaar cards are not admissible if they conflict with the 10th marksheet.

Crucial Reckoning Date

Under Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) guidelines, examinations held in the second half of the calendar year anchor age reckoning to 1 August of that year. All calculations are executed precisely as on 01-08-2026, regardless of your application date.

Calendar Difference Computation

Your age is computed in completed years, months, and exact days as of 1 August 2026. A candidate born on 2 August 1999 has not yet celebrated their birthday on 1 August, and therefore remains 26 years old for the 18–27 band calculation.

Post-Specific Band Matching

Because SSC CGL combines Group 'B' Gazetted, Group 'B' Non-Gazetted, and Group 'C' posts into one test, the age limits diverge into four distinct brackets: 18–27, 20–30, 18–30, and 18–32. Each post cadre must be evaluated individually.

Statutory Relaxation Stacking

Upper-age concessions (OBC +3y, SC/ST +5y, PwBD +10y, ESM service deductions) are appended to the upper limit of the target post. However, minimum age requirements (18 or 20 years) are strictly non-relaxable across all categories.

OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)

Applies to candidates belonging to Central List OBC castes holding a valid Non-Creamy Layer certificate issued within the crucial validity window. For 18–30 posts, upper age becomes 33 years; for 18–27 posts, it becomes 30 years.

Scheduled Castes & Tribes (SC / ST)

Confers 5 years extension over the post's standard ceiling. For 18–30 posts, maximum age becomes 35 years; for JSO (18–32), maximum age becomes 37 years. Applicable to all Group B and C cadres.

Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD)

PwBD (Unreserved/EWS) receives +10 years. PwBD + OBC receives +13 years cumulative. PwBD + SC/ST receives +15 years cumulative. Must possess a valid disability certificate of 40% or higher.

Ex-Servicemen (ESM)

Computed by deducting the period of actual military service rendered from the candidate's actual age on closing date. If the adjusted age exceeds the post ceiling by ≤ 3 years, the veteran qualifies.

Central Govt Civilian Employees

Civilian employees who have rendered not less than 3 years regular and continuous service as on crucial date can apply up to 40 years of age for Group 'C' posts (45 years for SC/ST).

EWS (Economically Weaker)

Under official central norms, EWS candidates are granted 10% reservation in vacancies, but no concession in age limit. EWS candidates must meet the same age criteria as Unreserved (General) applicants.

Candidate Age: 22 Years (UR)

Status: Full Universal Eligibility

At 22 years, this candidate satisfies the minimum age requirements for both 18+ and 20+ brackets, and is well under the 27, 30, and 32-year ceilings. They can apply for every single post in the CGL notice.

Candidate Age: 28 Years (UR)

Status: Post-Selective Eligibility

Ineligible for Band 1 (Auditors, Tax Assistants at 18–27). However, fully eligible for Band 2 (ASO CSS, MEA at 20–30), Band 3 (Excise/IT Inspector at 18–30), and Band 4 (JSO at 18–32).

Candidate Age: 31 Years (UR)

Status: Specialized Cadre Only

Disqualified for 18–27, 20–30, and 18–30 posts as an Unreserved applicant. However, still eligible for Junior Statistical Officer (JSO, 18–32) if they satisfy the graduation statistics/math criteria.

Candidate Age: 33 Years (OBC)

Status: Category-Relaxed Eligibility

As a General candidate, they would be overage for all posts except JSO. But with +3 years OBC relaxation, their ceiling for 18–30 posts expands to 33 years, keeping IT Inspector and Excise Inspector completely open.
