What you get

How the next work anniversary is found

Enter the employment start date and the date to calculate on. The calculator measures the completed service between the two dates in years, months and days, then rolls the start month and day forward to the next anniversary and counts the days until it. The result shows the completed service, the next anniversary date and which anniversary number it is.

★Method

Measure service, then roll forward

Completed service is an exact calendar difference: whole years first, then whole months, then the remaining days. The next anniversary is the start month and day in the current or following year — whichever falls after the calculation date — and the countdown is the plain day count to that date.

◎Example

Worked example: started 15 March 2021

With a start date of March 15, 2021 and a calculation date of October 20, 2026, completed service is 5 years, 7 months, 5 days. The next anniversary is the 6th, on March 15, 2027 — 146 days away. Enter the same dates above to see the same result.

⌁Limits

Same-day results and February 29 starts

Calculated exactly on an anniversary day, the countdown already targets the following year: a start of October 20, 2020 checked on October 20, 2026 shows 6 years completed and 365 days to the 7th anniversary. A February 29 start date is observed on February 28 in non-leap years, so its next anniversary after October 20, 2026 falls on February 28, 2027.

How it works

One calculation, with the rule visible

This tool keeps the input dates, counting convention and result together so the answer can be checked.

1

Employment start date

Enter the date employment began — the start date every anniversary is counted from.

2

Calculate on

Enter the date to calculate on — today, or a planning date.

3

Measure service, then roll forward

Completed service is an exact calendar difference — whole years first, then whole months, then the remaining days. The start month and day are then rolled forward to the next anniversary: the current year's if it falls after the calculation date, otherwise the following year's.

4

Read the service and the countdown

Started 15 March 2021 and calculated on 20 October 2026, completed service is 5 years 7 months 5 days and the next anniversary is the 6th, on 15 March 2027 — 146 days away. Calculated exactly on an anniversary day, the countdown already targets the following year, and a 29 February start date is observed on 28 February in non-leap years.

Method & limits

What this result means

A useful answer includes both the number and its assumptions.

Calculation method

Work Anniversary Countdown calculates the next employment anniversary and completed service duration using Gregorian calendar arithmetic. Dates are treated as date-only values, avoiding accidental time-of-day and daylight-saving shifts.

Important: Weekend, holiday, legal, medical, financial, school or workplace policies are included only when the tool explicitly asks for them. Confirm official decisions with the responsible authority.

Common checks

  • Confirm day, month and year before calculating.
  • Check whether endpoints should be included.
  • Review February 29 and month-end cases.
  • Save the reference date with the result.
